Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is one of Assam's most celebrated wildlife destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site known across the world for the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Set along the Brahmaputra floodplain, Kaziranga brings together tall elephant grass, wetlands, river channels, open meadows, and forest patches into one of India's richest natural landscapes.
The park is also home to wild elephants, Asiatic water buffalo, swamp deer, tigers, wild boar, otters, turtles, and a remarkable variety of resident and migratory birds. Every safari through Kaziranga feels different: misty morning rides, golden grasslands, wetland views, and sudden wildlife sightings make the experience memorable for families, photographers, bird watchers, and nature lovers.
Kaziranga's beauty changes with the season. Winter brings crisp safari mornings and excellent wildlife viewing, while the post-monsoon landscape feels fresh, green, and full of life. The grasslands, water bodies, and forest edges together create a rare chance to experience Assam's wilderness at close range.
Through kazirangaforestsafari, operated by ASHOK NE TRAVELS, visitors can plan safari bookings with clear guidance on dates, timings, zones, visitor details, and local travel support. Our aim is to make your Kaziranga visit smooth, well-organized, and focused on the real experience of the forest.
About Kaziranga National Park:
Kaziranga National Park is one of India's most celebrated wildlife reserves. Located in the northeastern state of Assam along the floodplains of the Brahmaputra River, it is world-famous for protecting the largest population of the endangered Indian one-horned rhinoceros. It has also been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
Why Kaziranga is special
- One-horned rhinoceros: Kaziranga is home to roughly two-thirds of the world's wild population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros.
- Big cats: It has one of the highest densities of Bengal tigers in the world and is also a designated tiger reserve.
-
Rich biodiversity: The park supports:
- Asian elephants
- Wild water buffalo
- Swamp deer (barasingha)
- Leopards
- Gibbons and macaques
- More than 450 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.
Landscape
The park covers over 1,300 square kilometers (including additions over time) and features:
- Vast elephant grasslands
- Marshes and wetlands
- Tropical forests
- Numerous rivers and water bodies shaped by the annual flooding of the Brahmaputra.
These seasonal floods, although challenging, are vital because they replenish nutrients and maintain the park's unique ecosystem.
Best time to visit
The ideal season is November to April, when the weather is pleasant and wildlife is easier to spot. The park is generally closed from May to October due to the monsoon season and flooding.
Safari options
Visitors can explore Kaziranga through:
- Jeep safaris, which cover larger areas and are the most popular choice.
- Elephant safaris, typically offered in selected zones during the early morning for close wildlife viewing.
Conservation success
Kaziranga is considered one of the world's greatest conservation success stories. Strong anti-poaching measures, habitat protection, and careful wildlife management have helped the population of one-horned rhinos recover dramatically from the brink of extinction.
Interesting facts
- It was first established as a protected area in 1905.
- It is part of the Eastern Himalaya biodiversity hotspot.
-
Besides rhinos, Kaziranga is home to the "Big Five" of Assam:
